These are exciting times for dismantling boundaries of gender identity. So how can we say who gets to be a real drag queen and who is faux? Legendary boundary-breaker Fauxnique (the first cis-female drag queen to win a major pageant) leads an expedition through the layers of our femme artifice and authenticity. In this workshop we will rigorously honor practices of drag tradition, and boldly expand definitions of drag performance.

We will work quickly, using found costumes, creating costumes from unusual materials and finally, generating performances directly inspired, influenced and propelled by the intersection of our movement and our drag. Fauxnique will provide a drag bag full of goodies and crafting supplies. Wear clothing that you can move in and layer on top of (leggings & t-shirts, etc.). Be prepared to move and WERQ.

Pieter is a community space.  A refuge for dancer-people and their friends. Located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, Pieter’s performances, artist residencies, workshops, classes and subsidized rehearsal space nourish and support creativity and experimentation. Pieter is a safe space for people of all kinds.
