A drag queen and a drag queen walk into a bar, a room. They have pelvises and centers of gravity, centers of gravities, gravitas. And headdresses: imaginary. In overblown feminine accoutrements we play with style, cliché, and authenticity, exhibiting intimate relationship to the tropes of drag and also those of Contemporary Dance, finding humor in both.
We aim to explode ideas around “real bodies” as expressed through socialized gender. We are driven to explore and blur the boundary between the real hips and the drag hips, the real hair and the drag hair, as well as visceral and imagined edges of identity. We equate persona with identity- embracing a fluidity, hybridity and curiosity around the ways we flow between performed self and social self — art object, subject and medium.
